Vintage pens
Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 9:36PM
My friend, Carol, gave me these beautiful vintage pens.
The one on the left above is shown below. It has "Forget Me Not" inscribed on the nib:
Here you can see the bottom and a bit more of the inscription that wraps around the nib:
I love the floral pattern on this one:
This one is some sort of cartridge pen, I think, but I can't get it open:

How special. Those are just beautiful! What a good friend, too.
She is a wonderful friend! Generous in every way--generous in her time, her friendship, her prayers, her hospitality. . .
You are truly blessed!
Hi Kim, what beautiful nib holders. I have seen the mother of pearl handled holders before but without nibs, these are the first I have seen with such lovely ornate nibs. Have you actually written with any of them or are you keeping them as collectors pieces? What a lovely friend to give you such a wonderful gift.
Hi Marie!
Yes, I have written with the mother of pearl ones but not the little black one. I can't disassemble it and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to clean it properly if I dipped it in ink.
And yes, my friend, Carol truly is a wonderful friend!
I have just noticed the nibs are the ones without an eye hole (don't know what the correct term is for it) at the base of the tines. You would think that the ink wouldn't flow properly but it does. One of my friends in calligraphy class only to-day gave me one of the stainless steel nibs without the 'eye' to try, I was quite impressed with what it could do. It is a bit stiffer in the flex but lovely to write with, especially with the thicker 'gold' mixed powder inks. It doesn't get clogged up the same as with my fine copperplate nibs. This one is called a Leonardt Penna Pato No:236F.
These are all very stiff; hard to get a shade with them and hairlines? Pretty thick. But they are beautiful to look at!
